This week's Five Minute Friday episode is a little different because I have a guest. I am joined by Chris Desmond who is a Physiotherapist in Wellington, New Zealand, and Chris was also my guest on Episode #7: The Uncomfort Zone. Today we discuss how do you decide which ideas to pursue, which can be quite difficult if you have an active mind.
Idea Filter
Everybody needs an ideas filter. It could be your spouse, a family member, good friend or a business associate. Sometimes you need a sounding board to bounce your ideas off and then, based on feedback, decide if you want to pursue it further or not.
Current Goals
Most business owners and entrepreneurs have too many ideas, so as ideas come to you, ask yourself if the idea moves you closer or further away from your current goals and plans.
It's easy to get distracted by the next big shining idea, so if it doesn't move you closer, note the idea down somewhere and come back to it later.
Both Chris and I agree that you need a place to store your ideas for future reference. I like to store my thoughts in a hardcover book, whereas Chris saves his ideas electronically.
Benefit Of A Coach
One of the best things you can do for yourself and your business is to have a business mentor or coach. You can run your ideas by people you know, but you can never be too sure their advice is unbias, whereas a business mentor or coach can help guide you through the thought process and give you more clarity.
Active minds will always see opportunities that others do not, but just because something is a great opportunity it doesn't mean you need to pursue it right NOW.
