Last Monday was Easter Monday, which in Australia is a public holiday, except if you work for yourself, it’s more a day to catch up on things without there being phone calls and emails.
Anyway I was on Facebook and I saw a post about an upcoming webinar on growing your health business and since that is my industry, and it looked worthwhile, I decided to register.
Opt-In
Now, I understand that as soon as I opt in for this type of webinar I will be added to their database and SALES FUNNEL and I will receive emails for the rest of my life, but I also know I can unsubscribe if I find no long-term value.
So I don’t have a problem with this, BUT they must think I'm dumb because below is the email I received one-hour after registering for the webinar on Easter Monday.
Hi Tyson,
I was just in the office and was looking at the people who registered for the upcoming webinar - your name was on the list!
Nothing too serious here. Just wanted to reach out and personally welcome you.
I’m really looking forward to seeing you on the webinar and sharing some amazing things that are really going to serve you and help you make some rapid progress.
Two Lies
NOW, I doubt he was in his office, on Easter Monday, looking at his upcoming webinar list. So that’s lie number one.
He also said he wanted to reach out to me personally, yet the email came from an ONTRAMAIL account. That's lie number two.
I don’t have a problem with sales funnels and automation, in fact, I think they are a great idea and a great saver of time, but I'm sick to death of poorly constructed funnel automation that lacks a well thought out, realistic thought process.
Do they think we're stupid?
Probably not, it’s more they just don’t think of us as people and their arrogance gets ahead of them.
I don't think you can trust an individual or company that begins a relationship based on a lie or continues a relationship with ongoing lies.
I received a second email the same day, and it said, "I'm sooooo excited, and I've been waiting all weekend to send you this email"...etc.
Firstly, that was way too many O’s, and secondly, it was also from an Ontramail account.
Not Personal
As I previously mentioned I understand automation and how it saves time for the business and the individual, BUT please don't pretend it's a personal message when it's not. Be honest.
Even today I received an email from a business associate that I have known for approximately two years, and it was clear that it was an email sent to his whole database. It disappointed me. And my opinion of them has slightly dropped.
Facebook Feedback
I posted my thoughts on Facebook during the week and I want to personally thank everyone for your comments and feedback. It made me realise I’m not alone and we all agree that poorly constructed sales funnels and automated emails are annoying.
So what can we do as a collective group?
Well, we can all unsubscribe, but realistically that's unlikely to happen, so here’s my biggest takeaway and learning from all this.
If you decide to use a sales funnel or automated email, don’t be an annoying wanker. If from this day forth we can all do that, the world is going to be a better place.
I hope you get something from this and if you have any questions from this episode please email me at
