I was fortunate to listen to Adam Franklin (no relation) talk at a recent SEACRET Leadership event on the Gold Coast and he discussed social media, marketing funnels and many other hot social media topics, but the one topic that really caught my attention and made me do a bit more research was Facebook Live.
The Statistics
Adam said that Facebook Live videos get four times (4x) more views than other videos on Facebook and based on my own Facebook Live videos, compared to my other uploaded videos, Adam's figures are spot on.
Three Great Reasons For Live Video
There are three really good things about Facebook Live.
1) Your clients can connect with you immediately, as it's happening and they can comment and even ask questions, which can make the whole video process a lot more fun. It's all about creating engagement.
2) If the video is not seen live it can be replayed at a later date. How often have you done this yourself?
It's the rawness of live video that really captures people's attention, and the reason why it is viewed more often. With live video there's always an element of surprise and maybe even the occasional stuff up. Over produced videos lose this quality.
3) Once saved, live video can easily be shared, which is great and gives your video content even further reach to a broader audience. In addition to this you can embed your saved live video onto your website.
Below is a video my wife shot when I was completing my 365 Hour Mental & Physical Challenge. This one video had approximately 1300 views in the first three days.
Don't Let Fear Stop You
If you're not comfortable with shooting live video, don't worry, that's completely normal, but with practice and a little persistence it can become your new normal. It's all about facing your fears and overcoming them.
Your goal is to have fun, not take yourself too serious and just be yourself. People notice, enjoy and appreciate authenticity.
Four Ways Your Business Could Benefit From Facebook Live Videos
1) What's Happening Right Now: Give people a look at what you're doing right now. I think you'll be surprised who's online during the day and who is watching. When new stock arrives, or a new piece of equipment, share the excitment.
2) Behind the Scenes: There's nothing better than seeing what goes on behind closed doors.
3) Live Events: If you're at a live event, or about to do a presentation, flick on your smart phone and start recording your thoughts and excitement. Record the crowd.
4) Client Experiences: If you've got a happy client standing right in front of you, ask if they use Facebook Live. If they do, tell them it's fine if they want to shoot a live video from your premises. You want to capture true emotion.
Repurpose & No Editing Required
If you're not convinced yet about using Facebook live, here are two other reasons why you should jump on board and start using it right away.
Firstly, your videos can be repurposed on other social platforms, giving your greater exposure and secondly, by shooting live video you save time. There's no longer any need for editing, post production graphics etc, instead it's recorded and it's done.
And best of all, if you hated what you recorded, you can always DELETE IT.
